A Shared Condition
A Shared Condition, 1st solo exhibition & collective by Mubtasim Alvee, explores the space between the personal and the collective, questioning the ‘notion’ that psychological and emotional states are solely individual experiences. Rooted in the concept of Pareidolia, Alvee’s process allows forms and figures to emerge organically from abstraction, reflecting the layered nature of memory, emotion and identity.
The exhibition approaches the psyche as socially constructed, shaped by historical, political, and cultural forces. Within a post-colonial context, the works examine how inherited structures and collective histories continue to influence internal landscapes. Figures within the paintings appear fragmented, fluid, and unresolved, mirroring identities in constant flux.
Though grounded in painting, the exhibition expands into a dynamic, participatory space where collaboration becomes central. The “solo” format dissolves into a shared platform of experiences, relationships, and dialogues. The exhibition thus becomes not merely a display, but a lived structure, where art is understood as a continuous process of interaction, conditioning, and collective becoming.
The exhibition presents around 100 works spanning acrylic, spray, pastel, prints, and digital media, created between 2024 and 2026. Alongside the artworks, the programme includes a series of collaborative events such as Panel discussions, Workshops, Interactive audio-visuals, Film screenings, Musical events and Theatre performances.
The exhibition, along with its collaborative programmes, is organised by Alliance Française de Dhaka and ARTCON and supported by Bhabachakra, Syllabaad Collective, Charukola Animation Society, Dhaka Comics, Cartoon People, Tickify, Elaka Studios Ltd., Footprint Film Production, and Siliconinja. It runs from 8–16 May 2026, open daily from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi.
